Will the GP be able to do anything about my black beard?

I have PCOS but my periods have returned within the last 6 months after a 3 year absence. I have always been quite hairy but recently it's got worse and I'm constantly have to remove dark coarse chin hair and moustache hair, today I looked in the mirror and noticed that the fine hair on my cheeks is turning coarse and dark too :( I'm going to look like the incredible bearded woman at this rate :( is there anything a GP can give me to make it go away?

Are you on the Dianette or Yasmin pill? That is supposed to help block the testosterone levels causing the hair growth.

No I'm not on any contraceptive pill, perhaps that would work, we were ttc but circumstances have changed so we've given up and dp's been referred for the snip. I didn't realise the pill could help. I'll ring the gp tomorrow to get an appointment.

There are various treatments for Pcos so I'm sure the Dr will be able to help.

You can use home laser hair reduction systems for facial hair. Men cant use them because it gives them a feminised appearence.

I found the biggest change to my PCOS came when I gave up alcohol and lost weight.

Have you looked at Verity.org for advice? they are the UK PCOS charity. Very useful.

Thank you Fluffy I hadn't heard of that website so will give it a look. I'm currently trying to lose some weight, I've been zumba'ing a couple of times a week for the past year and the weight loss is what I think has kick started my periods again. My dp has been told he needs to lose weight before surgery next year so we are both going to really knuckle down with diets and exercise :)
