Smear Test Help Required

Had a smear today, well I didn't actually because my cervix could not be located. Is this usual, and if so under what circumstances? Nurse said that it does happen. Mine's always been quite far back apparently.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have that problem sometimes but they usually find it.. Maybe the nurse wasn't very experienced. Poor you, it's not a pleasant experience and having to go back is a pain...

sorry slightly warped sense of humour after years of IVF and a disappearing cervix and never once had the nerve to crack that joke!

My cervix is deep and retroverted. The nurse probably wasn;t very experienced - lots of differnt techniques to help - sit on your fists to tilt your cervix a bit, cough when they are looking and tell tehm to use the deeper speculum.

Hi, humour accepted! I was laughing my head off when she couldn't find it. I did the fists under the lower back, raised myself up like a crab, you name it! She's been at the surgery for years so I doubt it's lack of experience. She started with a long speculum, and then tried a normal one towards the end. What makes them go away though? Have to go back again in a month or so, perhaps it will show up by then.

They can never find mine. Takes at least two nurses to find it and all that rummaging around hurts like hell. Can't wait until I am 60 or however old when I don't have to go anymore.
