Help. Hernia Pain

missnevermind · 25/04/2012 19:58

I had a baby nearly 9 months ago by emergency CS.

I noticed a bulge in my bellybutton, so when I went for my implant about 8 weeks later I had the doctor check it saying I thought it might be a hernia. She had a quick feel with me standing up and agreed that it was. She said as I was not in pain it was fine and to come back when it hurt or in 6 months. Very dismissive.

Tonight I had a pain. It hurt.
I have quite a high pain threshold and this hurt a lot. I twisted sort of funny while sitting at the dinner table. The pain was like a severe cramping and crushing squashed sort of pain. It made me feel sick and dizzy with white spots in my eyes.
The pain has gone and I now feel odd. Not unwell just not quite with it IUKWIM.

Oh dear, poor you. :(

Call NHS Direct - they might suggest A&E, but I'm not sure of the protocol with hernias.

No nor me. I can get an emergency appt at the doctors in the morning. But I did wonder about A&E. And you never know with Doctors what they mean by straight away.

I had an umbilical hernia after DD, mine didn't hurt and they weren't bothered unless it did but I had a very minor op to sort it.
DS2 currently has a hernia which will need sorting - but they did say to be very wary if he gets any pain there as it could twist and trap blood (?) in it - this can turn nasty - I think it clots and then if it gets out it can be dangerous??
Sorry to be vague - but the quick answer is call and check!
