Morning headaches

Hello, wonder if anyone can throw some advice my way. I've been waking every morning for the last week with a headache. Usually after I've had some caffeine and breakfast it goes but there have been a few times when it's not and ive had to take some paracetamol. I have a memory foam mattress (never again!) which I think may be the cause but can't afford a new one just now. I tend to sleep on my side/stomach so have 2 soft pillows that I only got maybe a year ago. The heating does still come in through the night and I tend to wear a jumper some nights to if it's really cold, I'm wondering if it's the heat.

Anyone been the same? :)

Oh and I should add that I might be guilty of not drinking much through the day but I do try and I always have a pint of water with my dinner around 7.30/8ish

I would think its dehydration. You need to drink about a litre and a Half of water/clear fluids. If you are drinking coffee then top that up as caffeine dehydrates.

It could be way you sleep but I would start with upping how much water you drink.

If I'm too hot at night I get a headache. I need the heating to be off and the window open to be ok.

Tension headaches with me.

Sounds like you could be alittle dehydrated, Start the day with hot water and a slice of lemon in it, add honey if its too tart, try and drink more water throughout the day, are your pillows too soft and not supporting you head whilst you sleep? I have a wedge pillow which works for me

Another thought- are you clenching your jaw/grinding your teeth at all? That was the cause of my headaches.

jammydodger1 · 25/04/2012 08:01

Have you had your eyes tested recently, a friend of mine got lousy headaches and it turned out to be an eye problem?

FuzzzyDuck · 25/04/2012 09:04

Thanks all for comments Smile

Had my eyes tested a few months ago and as far as I'm aware, I don't grind my teeth. I think it is dehydration or the heat through the night. Will have window open slightly tonight and put heating off. I suffered from constant daily headache a few years back and had all matter of tests done but was put on beta blockers but have been off them for about 2 years now

My diet is shocking right now, im feeling so sluggish. Prob isn't helping matters. Heading to the gym for first time in a few months shortly so I'm drinking water to hydrate

Thanks for all suggestions Smile

Couldn't be your sinuses could it. I can wake up with terrible headaches if I have bad sinuses but it clears as soon as I'm upright for a while. I'm just wondering as eating breakfast and a hot drink help with me as it helps drain the sinus

I get headaches like this.

DRINK more and have windows open,if only a crack. And turn that heating off at night (unless you live in the Arctic!).That sounds so muggy!

Have you tried feather pillows? I found that really helped.

FuzzzyDuck · 25/04/2012 09:25

Heating isn't on all night, just half hour here and there to take chill off. Still getting cold at night here in Scotland!! Will try window tonight.

Could be sinus, I'm getting over a cold but still stuffed up. Thanks
