Has anyone recently had an Endometrial Ablation operation?

Hi. I am due to have this operation as day surgery on friday but am having serious doubts about having it. My biggest fear is that I have never had a general anaesthetic before and feel it seems quite a big trauma on the body for what I have been told will be a small operation.

I have been told to have the operation due to heavy periods and a "possible" poylp though they are not 100% sure of this. I am 41 and have heavy bleeding for 2-3 days of the month with pain, bearable but uncomfortable. I do not have any break through bleeding between periods or after intercourse so am really questioning why I should go ahead with invasive surgery that carries risks.
As the day gets closer I have really got cold feet and tried to phone up the hospital to discuss it with someone but nobody answers the phone at all on any of the numbers I have tried. I tried to phone my GP today to be told that she is on long term sick leave so not having much luck in speaking to anyone about this.
Has anyone recently had or know of someone that has had this operation?
Thanks.

Hey not personally but my big sis did a few years ago now and she is great. Best thing she ever did. She had to wear 2 super plus tampax and 2 pads for every day of bleeding, I couldn't imagine that for the life of me.
She did bleed very heavily and also didn't have more than a 4 days break between each period which yes kinda justified the op as now she has regular 28 day periods, still a little heavy but not like before the op. She also suffered polyps and had 4 removed.
She was a little uncomfortable for a week and was petrified to use the bathroom as it was a little raw.
I'm not sure about you, I'm sorry there isn't a medical professional you can get in touch with before Friday to see if it is totally necessary if this is your main worry it would be best to talk to someone.
General isn't too bad, I had it last week for a fractured ankle, I was scared as it was the first time for me but boy when they woke me up I felt like I'd been asleep for week, my op was 45 mins lol.
Good luck with what ever you decide to do. My sis was 39 when she had hers done and is now 44 and glad she did it. X

Had this op 18 months ago and it was the best thing i ever did. Had really heavy periods (5 days of heavy and long periods of 12ish days) Now i have one heavy day. It was really affecting my life and i was quite anaemic because of it so it was worth it. But if you have any doubts, perhaps you need to talk to someone in the hospital before you have the op.
