She was fine when she went to bed last night, when she woke this morning she is very hot, calpol not bringing temp down, no appetite, and has slept most of the day so far, she has justed turned 2. No sign of my other 2 coming down with it......yet.

Have you tried switching between Calpol and Nurofen? That can help bring it down sometimes. Or a tepid bath.

It sounds like the bug. Where are you? Wonder if it's moving north.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2006 13:26

Oh, sending you vibes that she gets better soon AND the others don't get it. AND that you soon are able to schedule your smear test .

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 13:27

Tried the bath, have no nurofen at the moment, Oh the other thing that worried me is she is twitching alot, and I mean big twitches as well, and they are startling her.

I am not safe anywhere from you expatinscotland

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 13:29

I am in the west midlands, which is where the epidemic is.

OP posts:

The nurofen is sometimes more effective at controlling the temp. Is she twitching from chills? Chills are the hallmark of influenza. Gawd, I'll never forget those awful chills, or the fact that you need a smear test .

How is her chest and breathing? Has she got a cough?

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 13:32

She has a slight cough, I dont think she has chills, as she does'nt want her blanket on.

My dd has what sounds like the same bug waterfalls. She has been ill since Monday evening. Mainly she has just ben really lethargic and had no appetite with occasional temperatures, but I did found calpol (and some sponging) brought the temperature down very effectively. Still, we are all different...

One tip: if she seems better tomorrow, don't let her overdo things. DD was ill on Tuesday, seemed better on Wednesday and I let her walk to school and playgroup etc, but then yesterday she was iller than I have ever seen her - scarcely moved all day literally.

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 13:34

Lonelymum
Thanks for the tip, I am glad it is half term, so I dont have to drag her tothe school everyday to pick drop off and pick up ds.

We have that bug here as well. DS has something similar - very lethargic but with bad chesty cough which means he is sick virtually every night. not sick during the day though only when lying down - very frustrating.

Friend of my sister's little boy has it - he's lost 10 lb in a week bless him.

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 21:15

Well she woke at 3pm, had a small amount to eat, a bit of a cuddle, went back to bed at 4pm and is still sleeping, so she has only been awake for about 2 hrs max today. I know its good that she is sleeping it off, but is this a bit much do you think?

Hi waterfalls!

Hope she's better soon. Ds just developed a chesty cough one day last week out of the blue (no cold or anything first) then he was sick twice and slept loads, 3 hours in the afternoon then 14hours at night - no temperature though but I gave him chesty cough medicine and some calpol just hoping it would help. He was fine the next day so I thought it was one of those 24hr bugs???

Someone also told me ibuprofen rather than paracetamol was better at bringing down a temperature, they said Medised was good.

Ds did seem a lot better after all that sleep so I suppose if she's sleeping alot she needs it. I know what you mean though everything is so worrying. I'm like that, is he sleeping too much, what does that mean?!

Plenty of sleep and plenty of water is supposed to be good for everything

MarsOnLife · 10/02/2006 23:32

hi waterfalls

did you get nurofen? If her temp is still high then give both together initially and after 4 hours give one, 2 hours later give the other etc.

How's DT1 doing? Untouched I bet.

My DT2 has been rather ill and DT1 has sailed through. Funny that. They are always together and yet only he gets sick.

love to all of yours.

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 23:34

Hi Lauraa
Luckily when she is poorly she only ever wants water, so dont have any problems getting that down her, I hope it is just a 24 hour thing, I keep telling myself if she can sleep so well she cant be feeling that poorly, I have checked on her every hour and she is sleeping soundly and does'nt seem quite so hot.

waterfalls · 10/02/2006 23:38

Hi mars

Yes, got the nurofen now, gave them both together about 3.30, and she has been asleep since, so dont want to wake her just to give her medicine, dt1 is perfectly fine, but has missed her sister today, they are never apart normally.

Love to yours too, hope your dt2 gets better soon xxx

how's it going today waterfalls?

Lauraa83 · 11/02/2006 19:24

hiya just gonna ask the same, how is she today?

Lonelymum · 11/02/2006 19:28

How is it going today Wateralls?

I know this is Waterfalls thread, but my dd is still ill with this bug. Having had another good day yesterday, she has gone down hill again today. It is a really odd bug, and so long lasting!

waterfalls · 11/02/2006 22:09

She seems better today, her temp is still soaring, but she is eating and drinking fine and seems alot happier

Im in the west midlands too Waterfalls - where about are you? (im in birmingham)

waterfalls · 11/02/2006 22:21

I am in Worcestershire, seems to be going around like wild fire here.

OP posts:
TambaTheDragonSlayer · 11/02/2006 22:22

Like that here too, so far we've managed to avoid it and am hoping that half term stamps it out. I am a grumpy enough sort of mum without having sick kids!

Although, One of our friends isnt well atm - temp, aches etc so hoping thats not the start of it as we have spent sometime with them recently.

waterfalls · 11/02/2006 22:28

I dont think it is the flu thing dt2 has though, she does'nt seem poorly enough for that, though if she is anything like me she will just get the onset of the virus and then it goes, I never seem to get ill, when flu is going around I get a bit achey for about a day and thats it, I must have a strong immune system, I worked for a 4 year strech (before dts arrived) without taking a single day sick leave, my boss thought I was indestructable
