Sore and uncomfortable nipples..... On a Man.

EMBARRASSMENT ALERT!

I'm in a real state here. My nipples are killing me. Last night was unbearable. They are not so much hurting, as just uncomfortable and raw.

My last resort last night was co-codemol and it seemed to do a bit of good.

I've looked up joggers nipple which seems similar but I don't really get it. I don't jog and I'm a lazy arse who sits at a desk so I don't know why I've got this.

It just came one Tuesday night and I was in agony all day Wednesday.

I raided the first aid box at work and tried putting gauze patches on them but that didn't work.

It's awful. I'm off to the Doctors (i never go to the doctors) at 4:30.

Does anyone know what the hell this is?!

nO idea! - but Lansinoh in a purple packet in the baby aisle of Boots/decent chemist would soothe it and help healing till the GP takes a look.

I'm sure someone on here wil know!

Changed your washing powder or undergarment type lately DC?

NomDePlume · 09/02/2006 13:26

thrush, type thing ?

DD had a v sore nipple for months and months, the doc thought it was impetigo. The patch was very localised and didn't spread at all over the months, very itchy too. I don't think it was impetigo as it didn't spread, and our GP surgery are not known for their accurate dermatology diagnoses.....

DaddyCool · 09/02/2006 13:26

someone's DH/DP must have had this.

I was really in a state yesterday. I couldn't eat and I was freaking out.

It's horribly uncomfortable.

The co-codomol is keeping it at bay for now but I've had to come into work wearing a really soft long sleeve T-shirt and I'm walking around carefully so they don't rub.

Poor you, btw, sounds awful

DaddyCool · 09/02/2006 13:27

there is no rash, no swelling, no redness, no nothing. just pain and discomfort. that's the weird thing. we just can't figure it out.

you on any medication, worn any new clothes. Is it in one or both nipples?

edodgy · 09/02/2006 13:30

Have you been wearing a baby carrier on your front alot?

edam · 09/02/2006 13:31

Poor you sounds horrid. No idea what it could be, hope the doc is useful.

WigWamBam · 09/02/2006 13:33

DC, how's your circulation? I only ask because I suffer with Reynaud's Syndrome in my nipples, and that makes them bloody painful ... it's awful on a cold day. Wonder whether it's something like that?

Greensleeves · 09/02/2006 13:39

How horrible for you! Most of us know what bloody sore nipples feel like, albeit for slightly different reasons. I STRONGLY recommend you try Lansinoh, even just while you're figuring out what it is. It really helps.

DaddyCool · 09/02/2006 13:43

no baby carrier
no medication but I came off a course of antibiotics 2 weeks ago

WWW - circulation is actually very good as far as I know. DW suffers from bad circulation and she's always got problems but I'm pretty fit that way.

both nipples btw. equally as uncomfortable as each other.

DaddyCool · 09/02/2006 13:45

i hope the doc doesn't want to touch them because if she does, i'll die. i'm really funny about my nipples.

lol... someone gave me a 'purple nurple' (tit twister) in high school once and I had to go home I was so beside myself.

Could it be some sort of allergy/histamine reaction? That can cause pain and tenderness in bizarre places. I sometimes find the skin on my arms becomes massively sensitive, as if it's one big bruise, but there's nothing to see. Usually if I get stung by nettles - I got pushed int oa nettle bed when I was four and am now hugely histamine-sensitive.

chapsmum · 09/02/2006 13:46

If you execrsice it is possible toget thrush in your nips.
The antibugs will have made you more suseptable too.
My dp and I did a race and he got the most awful nipple burn however, there really was nothing to see. He still gets it when he wears certain fabrics nylon seems to bee the worse. .

DaddyCool · 09/02/2006 13:53

i must admit, when it came on, i was rushing around trying to sort things out between the house we just sold (yyyaaaahhh) and our new house. i was all hot and bothered and it was cold and I was wearing a rather crisp formal shirt and a loose jacket.

just read that post back and I sound like a complete wallace.

Greensleeves · 09/02/2006 13:58

Ah, but we're all used to that

chapsmum · 09/02/2006 14:02

do they feel like this?

Sorry shoudnt laugh, We've found that if its not thrush the best thing do do is put some fabric plasters over them for a few days. But better let the gp decide if its thrush

Hope they feel more

soon

WigWamBam · 10/02/2006 10:54

How did you get on with the doctor yesterday, DC?

rey · 11/02/2006 10:43

Well how did you get on at doctors? Curious as now dh complaining of same thing!

Chandra · 11/02/2006 10:58

FAr fetched but here it goes, a friend who worked in a pharmacy one day, mistakenly, handed up some hormonal patches for menopause to a man who asked for those patches used to stop smoking. Whe she was unable to find the man she rang a doctor who said that nothing too bad will happen except he will end up with very sore nipples

Have you been trying to stop smoking?
