Impetigo doesn't want to clear up

My son (aged 5) had impetigo just before christmas. He had some cream and a week of flucloxicillin. it cleared up fine. It was a very small patch around his mouth and chin Oh and on this "bits" where he scratched too - the doctor said it was cross infection
About a month ago we had yet another bout. 2 weeks of antibiotics this time.
It looked like it had cleared up, but now it seems to be back.
The problem is that he has dry skin all around his mouth from the cream prescribed and then he picks it. he doctor tells me that it is an infection due to a bacterium normally living on skin anyway that goes wild. So the question is how do i get rid of it once and for all and how do I stop him picking at the dry skin and stop him reinfecting himself?
Will more antibiotics really work?
I am hoping for some info before seeing the doctor tomorrow.

Poor you Alison 222 - impetigo is really horrid isn't it? My three ds's all had it last summer (and I got it too on my hands - I get eczema and that makes you more prone to impetigo, apparently)
Trying to remember what stuff they had to take: seem to think we had something else as well as the flucloxicillin and the cream...
At least you were lucky that your doctor recognised it. We got sent away with a flea in our ear several times - until we looked like scabby lepers and then we were rushed to hospital dermatologist! They all got very excited and took pictures!! The shame!
Sorry - not much help I know. But big sympathy...

i wish in some ways he did look like he had something more serious, it might scare him into leaving the skin alone and stopping picking it.

the doctor just thinks he is re-infecting himself.

None of the rest of the family have been infected

Must be really hard to not pick/touch it if you get it on your face (mine had it on their legs). Poor mite. Only thing that worked for me was telling them horror stories about nasty bugs and stuff - probably very bad parenting...

Also just remembered how much they hated the other medicine (not the floxy stuff, the one I cant remember). Telling them that if they touched/picked, they'd have to have more of the yucky stuff was very motivational!

alternate the homeopathic remedies graphites and hepar sulph (3x a day of each) until it clears up. then it will be gone for good.
