Strongest OTC painkillers?

Further to this thread about managing pain during an HSG, what in MN's opinion is the strongest over the counter painkiller? Or should I just be asking my GP for something on prescription?

Go see your doctor they will be able to provide an appropriate prescription. Some painkillers are better used in combination as they work on different types of pain.
If you have a longer term problem they can also give you a larger amount on prescription than you would be able to buy OTC (paraceatamol for example... As a long term RA sufferer I have a repeat prescription for 100 at a go Blush, which I take in combination with various other drugs. You should also be getting treatment / investigation for the underlying cause of the pain so your doc should be your first port of call.

Cocodamol is the strongest, but OTC has much less codeine than your doctor can prescribe.

Paracetamo, can be used to augment other forms of pain relief which is why it is contained in many preparations.
