I have been urgent and it has been sore to pee for 3/4 days. There was blood after peeing around day 2/3. I was unable to leave the house those days as peeing was so urgent, I couldn't risk not having access to a loo. There is no visible blood now. Yesterday, the urgency was less if I filled up with lots of h20 but my lower back was aching(say around kidneys). I was feeling quite unwell also. I went to the doctor (minor treatments in a+e) and he tested a urine sample and said there was no infection. He did say I had blood in the urine. He gave me a prescription for nitrofurantoin and said to take it if symptoms don't clear up. I've had to take paracetamol since then and am very unwell so have started on the anti b's.

It must be that I have some sort of infection that wasn't picked by his strip test. Surely, it can only be a basic test by strip. I've started on ab's as so rotten now.

Has this happened to anyone? Is it ok to take paracetamol while on nitrofurantoin?

Not sure about paracetamol you'll need to check with pharmacist. However you can get sachets of powder to mix with water, get it from chemist, that will help with symptoms. Can't remember name now but will stop pain when you pee. You'll need to keep taking anti bs though as that is only way to shift infection.

thanks AW. I'd better ring pharmacist. Really thought it'd be gone by now. The doctor mentioned something about the fact he could send the sample off to the lab but didn't say he was going to. I hope the ab's are the right ones for the strain.

Am currently suffering from an uti. Gave gp sample last Thursday before they shut for the easter weekend, Didnt hear anything from them and went back in yesterday. GP says results came back clear. Umm, well peeing is bloody sore and Im constantly feeling the need to wee so clearly there is something there. She took another sample and there was blood mixed in with it and said that it was showing up something so I got prescribed trimethorprim (sp?) However, uti might be a symptom of something else, as I thought I had a slight prolapse so she gave me an internal and she thought my bladder had fallen down or urethral tube thingy might have a kink in it (?) so being referred to a gynae. Worth going back for another opinion.

kick, has the trimethorprim made any difference?
