3 year old with a sore willy - what might it be ?

I have no idea how to google for this without getting lots of unwanted sites !

My 3 year old is complaining his willy hurts (not enough to bother him much but enough to be aware of). It is a bit swollen and very red right at the end. He has an identical twin (very handy for comparison ) so I can tell it different from normal.

We have washed it and bunged savlon on it. What else should we do ? What might it be ?

thanks guys - I guess that means a trip to the doctor if it is still bothering him in the morning.

My son frequently gets a sore willy and has done fo the last year and half. I was told where they have a growing spurt the foreskin gets a bit tight so now every night it has to be very gently rolled back. It helps him and if we dont do it he complains it hurts. (was very surprised because all the books say to leave alone)

Was told that if it got infected he might have to be circumised.

thanks jellyjelly - I will keep an eye on it - it is less red this morning and doesn't seem to beother him so much. I have to admit I have always left that bit to its own devices (oldest son is 4.5 and has never had any problems)

My little 4yr old ds has had a sore willy quite a lot. Once it was purple and swollen which resulted in him having to go to hosp. Usually if he complains now and it looks sore(not purple,) the doctor prescribes some cream (can't remember the name) not much help I know, It is better to be safe than sorry. Hope he feels better soon

Probably a bit late but my ds has currently got a sore willy (he's nearly 3). We went to the Dr's on Friday and he said he's got an infection and prescribed 'Erythromycin' (yellow liquid by mouth).

I said I can't clean it as he says it hurts (only if touched) and before I could finish to say I just meant with wipes at nappy change time, he told me 'you must not wash it or pull it back'. Obviously some people are told to pull it back, I'm just saying that I think each person should go to the dr's for advice
