Ovulation pain?

Anybody else get this?
I've been off the pill (POP) for about 4/5 months now and the ovulation pain is excruciating!
I'm charting so I know it correlates with ov and it alternates side to side.

I'm 35 and never had this before (but been in the pill for last 7yrs).

Anybody else? I'd like to know I'm not a freak.
Also will Bt ttc this year so hoping this is not an indication of any gyn problems???

Are your periods very painful too?.

How long does this pain last, if it is more say than a couple of hours it may well not be ovulation pain at all.

Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out by a gynae to see if endometriosis is present. Endo is the second commonest gynae problem seen in women after fibroids. Keep a daily pain/symptom diary and log all that happens.

If it keeps happening seek medical advice from a gynae, not your GP as many of them are not up to speed with gynae issues.

yes feels like a stabbing pain on one side left or right when I ovulate - also get corresponding spot on that side of my chin, without fail! It can last from a couple of hours to a couple of days on and off.

Nope. Periods not sore at all. Pain lasts about 12-24hrs only.
How would one see a gynae rather than GP?

i used to get this, sometimes it was so bad i ended up hunched over as it was too painful to straighten up.

haven't had it much at all since dd was born 2 years ago. thank goodness.

Thanks for the link. Describes it perfectly but surprised it says 22% of women get it as I don't know anybody at all apart from me who does!

It's sharp and just inside one or other hip bone. So sore it can take my breath away or wake me up if I'm asleep. But it always goes by the next day and long before my period (which generally don't hurt)

I get this, and have since I was 15 or so. Sometimes it is so bad it keeps me awake at night, usually lasts one -2 days. Think it id only bad every other month or so, so probably one side more painful that the other.
I went to docs about it when a teenager and was told it is common and name is 'mittlesmerchz' (sp) meaning middle pain

I get it, ever since I had DS. Never before. It's quite useful when TTC!

maybenow · 08/04/2012 20:51

Thanks all.
Feeling much reassured that this is normal now.
Funny to be finding out new things about the female cycle at my age!

I get this too, only when not on the pill...lasts up to 5 days and a real dragging feeling...no problem ttc with it, but found after using ttc prediction sticks, the pain actually preceeded ovultion by a couple of days, so my best time to get preganat estimations were totally out for a long time!!
Glad to be back on the pill though as it totally removes the symptoms. Good luck with ttc.
