Large lump/gland behind my ear??

Have had a virus on and off for a week or so (thanks to the dd's sharing their germs), today a gland has poped up behind my ear and its very painful, its bigger than the size of a pea and painful to touch. So i googled and it seems its just a gland and i may be fighting an infection so do i need to get antibiotics or does it mean my body is fighting something off and all will be fine? i have had a temprature on and off for a few days but not overly high, i have no over symptoms other than a bunged up nose.

It will be fine and go away by itself. Viral things cause most colds and your glands will swell up to deal with those, it does not mean bacterial infection - dont worry.

Thanks Flighty, its still there this morning and i'm not feeling great (plus its painful), will sit it out though as i cant get to the gp until next week as i have no one to look after the kids. It has poped up before and went down after a couple of days (but wasn't this painful).

Thanks flighty, the lump is still there but not hurting as much today so i'm hoping it will go soon (if not i will go to my gp next week).
