Anyone had varicose vein surgery?

I had my (evil, horrible, ugly, painful) varicose veins taken out on 7th March. Now I know that's not really that long ago, but my legs are still a bit stiff & sore and tender behind the knees. [And I'm not very patient!! Grin] All up my thighs where the veins were taken out feels bruised if I prod it, and I have sore lumpy bits in my thighs too.

I can walk around fine now, my legs are initially a little sore when I first get up if I've been sitting down for a while. But anything involving impact (e.g. running for the bus!) is still a bit of a no-no. I'm going to go back to some gentle exercise next week (swimming and Pilates I'm thinking), but I'd be interested in your experiences of how long things took to settle down and stop being sore?

Ta! Smile

Hi Amelia! My mom had her varicose veins removed from both legs in October last year. She was sore for a few months, especially in the crotch where the big cuts were. I believe she was advised to do at least 2hrs of gentle walking a day but nothing high impact. She was complaining daily about her legs for about 4 months but then it got better. She is now back at the tennis court and even takes part in her local competitions :-) Hope you feel better soon! Be patient!

Thanks for the reply! The cuts in my groin are fine actually, it's mainly the backs of my knees which hurt. Which isn't too surprising as that's where the highest concentration of wiggly veins were. I want to get back to doing some 'proper' exercise, especially as everyone seemed to bring me chocolate and nice biccies when I was recuperating!! I will endeavour to be patient...... Smile
