Advice please on possible glandular fever

Hi I had tonsillitis about 3-4 weeks ago and had penicillin v for it which cleared it up beautifully but the dr mentioned glandular fever as well but offered no blood test. Well since wed I am so chronically tired and have sore throat again gland under jaw swollen right side and a lump appeared on left side near collarbone which I'm guessing is a lymph node. I've had a constant headache which is worse when I lean forward and neck ache. Not pain but bloody uncomfortable. Joints ache as well. Despite the exhaustion I can't sleep. Also uncomfortable at roof of mouth where the nasal passages would meet the throat I suppose. Does this sound likely to be glandular fever or just another sodding virus. I'm 5 weeks pregnant too which I just found out and I know it can cause knackeredness in itself but this feels different to that pregnancy tiredness iyswim.

Sorry for long ramble

Jojo xx

It could well be-I would get back to the doctor-a blood test would show it.

Until you said you were pg I thought yes defo sounds just like what I had. But of course pg brings it's awful tiredness! Either way you're going to need a blood test to actually find out though there's no benefit to that (other than you could get a sick note for some time off work with GF) because it's a virus and you cannot take anything for it. If there's no hurry you could possibly incorporate the GF bood test with your booking in bloods at 15 wks, though that's 10 wks away.

Hope it's not GF for you, it's a bloody awful thing. I used to work 7-3, come home and sleep till 6 or 7, eat something then go straight to bed! And this was after 4 weeks off work! and it still affects me 10 yrs later.

So, if it is, get on your vits.

DS had it and he was in bed and asleep with it at 6pm-he had to come home from university.

Get a blood test and FFS whatever you do don't take amoxicillin. Idiot GP gave me it when I had glandular fever and it nearly finished me off. And it will not simply give you a rash as they say - it made me horrendously ill and I had a few months of very bad post-viral symptoms. Not trying to scare you but my GP prescribed it in moment of idiocy when I had a very sore throat.

Have been to out of hours and got severe tonsillitis again. Got penicillin v again which I'm told is safe in pregnancy as well. She said no to bloods for glandular fever as well cos it won't make a difference. All the sore lumps are my immune system in overdrive cos of pregnancy. Yuk.

Bloody tonsils.

The reason they may not have offered a blood test is it's only about 70% accurate - so there's a 30% chance of a false negative - having it but blood test being negative, or 30% chance of a positive test without actually having it. The treatment is the same regardless, plenty of rest, eat well, lots of fluids. That what my GP told me when I was suspected of having it in my teens
I feel for you, being post viral is hideous but add early pregnancy symptoms to that and no wonder you feel rough! All you can do is take care of yourself. I expect you'll be very tired for a while yet, but gradually you'll have more energy. I hope you feel better soon.
