Can anyone help me get rid of a verruca I have? I have had it just over a year on the ball of my left foot. I have tried a couple of over the counter remedies, and have been to have it frozen at my GPs surgery - not luck so far www.mumsnet.com/te/8.gif

They are very difficult to get rid of, a lot of podiatry NHS service wont even treat them any more as the chances of them going is so small.

I wouldnt advise excess freezing (cryotherapy) treatment as I have seen patients before who think it's getting worse and I have to tell them they now have a corn where the Verruca was, corns hurt a lot more whereas Verrucas are usually painless for most of the time.

A conference I went to a few years back said they were more likely to occur in stressed patients, a colleague of mine had loads of them until her divorce came through, then they went literally overnight.

People spend a lot of time and money on them and to be honest a lot of the time they dont get good results from it.

I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of 3 I had on my foot a few years ago. The only thing that worked was being referred to the hospital to have it lasered off. It left 3 big holes in my foot that took a couple of weeks to heal but had no problems since.

I have found the scholl treatment quite effective. I tried all the bazuka gels etc with no luck. The scholl on consists of medicated discs with a covering foam sticky pad. It worked on a verruca my DS had for over a year and on one I had for a very long time. I got it In a chemists over the counter. Hope you sort yours out soon.

I overheard a chemist explaining to a customer about how to get rid of warts; verucas are warts aren't they?

So he was saying, you put a bit of duct tape over the wart and the adhesive irritates the skin and activates the body's immune system to get rid of the wart. It can take a couple of months though.

not tried it as I was just earwigging Smile

There are a lot of things advised for verrucas, duct tape, painting nail varnish on it, mashed up banana skin, bazuka gel, wartner, home cryotheraphy kits, rubbing raw potato into it, thuja (homeopathy) essential oil of lemon, selling them, rubbing steak on it and burying it in the garden (can you tell I hear a lot of cures off patients? can ya??)

If you can get laser treatment from the PCT then go for it.

Veruccas are indeed warts, but walked on so they go inwards into the skin not protuding outwards
