numbness is leg is it MS or something else?

i have a feeling of numbness, not pins and needles really and not pain, just a bit numb- but not even totallly numb, in my right leg from toes to just above the knee. I dont wake up with it, it develops soon after i wake.

i've also had numbness and pins and needles in right arm for quite a while on and off and been ref for physio as gp thinks its a nerve problem.

Recently I had a bit of a health scare (unrelated to this) and its made me more concerned for my health (which is generally good) and more aware of my mortality, espec as i have young children.

So- I am freaking out that this is the start of MS- but could it be something else or even just anxiety?

Also, before the health scare the numbness in legs was very occasional now i feel like i get it most days.

could be any number of things from trapped or inflamed nerves to MS but its worth going back to your GP and explain your fears so MS could be ruled out. I have had MS for 15 years now buut had to endure several years of tests!

I get this - GP was worried it could be MS and sent me for an MRI, HOWEVER HE SAID IT WAS MORE LIKELY TO BE DISC RELATED AND IT WAS.

I've got 2 slipped discs, one in my neck which affects my arm and another in my lower back which affects my leg.

See your GP and try not to worry.

thanks everyone. viva- how bad was your numbness? mine is not espec bad, i think i am focussing on it too much and obsessing. but i dont really know how to get the balance between being aware of what may be symptoms of something and just getting on with stuff and not obsessing.

when i am being rational (not often!) i feel as if it is obviously anxiety, as feelings much worse since i had this healthscare . (only in last couple weeks).

I never used to worry about my health now i feel like i have turned into woody allen.

My numbness comes and goes, but I have a tingling in my toes nearly aall the time. Sometimes my foot has been so numb that I can't feel it when walking and have actually fallen over flat on my face before now.

My arm is a lot betetr than it was but I was struggling picking small things up as my fingers were so numb when it was bad.

Check B12 deficiency too. Numbness was one of the things that made me ask for a test and it turned out my level was low. Also Thyroid disease can cause numbness. Lots of things can cause various low-level symptoms which you dismiss individually, but when added together they make sense. Make a list of any other symptoms and go to GP. x

If it's got worse since you've been worrying about other issues I'd wonder if stress is making it worse.

I got all kinds of weird near type symptoms when DD2 was small. A friend sent me to her osteopath who worked untied vast numbers of knots in my shoulders and back.

Cured numbness and tingling in my arm.
Legs turned out to be sciatica and took a bit longer.

thanks epilator and start. am down for a blood test during my next period (?) periods been a bit over frequent too so i think she is going to check these things. thanks for your suggestions. tbh i think its a small nerve prob in my arm which does exist, and the healthscare making me anxious and somehow projecting other slightly vague symptoms onto the rest of me!
there is a fair amount of stress about too- both children just diagnosed with asthma and waiting to hear about DS1 primary school application....
