Thyroid?

I have a blood test tomorrow to check if I have a thyroid problem.

What exactly is a Thyroid and what happens if there is something wrong?

I think the doctor said over active thyroid.

here are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. My friend suffers from it, it flares up every now and then. She has actually had treatment so that she suffers from underactive as opposed to overactive. Another friend has it too, she lost 5 stone in less than 2 months as it speeds up metabolism.

Good luck :)

good explanation here: www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Thyroid-over-active/Pages/Introduction.aspx

I was diagnosed with UNDER-active thyroid and now take thyroxine, to replace the lack of that hormone in my body. If you have an over-active thyroid, you may be given something to inhibit the production of the hormone. That's my understanding.

What symptoms do you have? What led to you having the test?

I sweat quite alot.

It gets quite embarrassing and now the weathers warming up, I'm dreading it again.

Doctor said they would test for thyroid problems first, if its not then she said theres not a lot else they can do.
