My DD (age 6) came home from school yesterday complaining of pain just underneath the front of her school shoe (court shoe). She had stupidly took off her socks during the day as she was hot, and as they are quite new shoes I just assumed it was a bit of rubbing, stuck a bandaid on and sent her to bed.
When we took the band aid off this morning there is what can only be described as a 'teenage style zit' on the top of her big toe and its a very angry looking pus filled one at that. Its the size of mars (well at least 5 mm across) and shes complaining of it being very painful, refusing to put any shoes or socks on.
So my question is....why the hell is there a pimple on her foot, how do I get rid of it, and do I pop it? What treatment do I give it????

THey didnt warn me of angry toe-zits in my antenatal classes!

Is it alongside the nail bed?

Lovetats · 24/03/2012 22:25

Two of mine have had such things. I'm afraid I held a pin in a lighter flame and then popped the blister so the pus came out - a bit naughty, I know but effective.

They both felt better for having the pus gone and their toes healed up in a couple of days.

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:27

nope, its on the erm....i dont know the term for top of toe that connects to the rest of your foot bit? like between the two joints?

Lovetats...im sorely tempted but dont want her toe to drop off lol

sudocrem? how is it different from a blister?

call the pus porn fans!

Lovetats · 24/03/2012 22:31

I am a bit Gung Ho when it comes to home surgery! I reckon the doc would have done exactly the same (except maybe use a properly sterilised needle...) - better out than in Smile

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:32

uh oh, pus porn? that doesnt sound promising!

Its not like a blister at all, its got really visible pus in....and it looks really angry....like its screaming at me. Blisters just kind of sit there and wobble dont they, this thing looks like it means business. Plus it seems firm, not squidgy...its smaller and to the point

Blisters in the witty household are usually met with a "oh stop moaning" this was more of a "jesus christ what have you done to yourself"

Yes id say tbh sterile sharp needle clean area with surgical spirit or antibacterial wipe and pierce the blister then wipe away puss as you would with conjunctivitis wipe one direction once then new tissue. Will heal In no time just keep clean. Smile

DH is a doctor, he's away on a stag do....sodding typical. I think he might kill me if he comes back to a story about when mummy stabbed me with a needle.

Lovetats · 24/03/2012 22:34

Yay! I'm not such a mental a bad mother! Wink

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:34

I think il take the advice of the MN army and stab away...(Might wait til shes asleep then she cant run away/tell tales. So I just hold the needle in a flame for a few minutes?

boysrock · 24/03/2012 22:35

hmm, sounds like an abscess, keep it covered and see how it is tomorrow. if there is redness or heat around it and especially if that starts spreading then she may need antibiotics.

If you do decide to squeeze it don't use any thing to burst it. [grimace]

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:35

Not at all tats a bad mother wouldnt have a clue what the thing growing on her childs foot is...Hmm

OP posts:
WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:37

so just squeeze it??????????????????????????????? that sounds a bit evil.

Hey I just noticed...it looks like this Angry

OP posts:
WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:44

okay so I just stabbed it expected it to go pop and somthing to come gushng out but there was no movement< so now its as above but with a small hole in

OP posts:
boysrock · 24/03/2012 22:46

If you put something in it you run the risk of it becoming more infected.

It sounds border line in need of antibiotics or mediucated dressing, but if you dont know what you're doing then I wouldn't recommend bursting it yourself

See what its like tomorrow morning , If its gone Angry Angry or shes still complaining of pain, then it sounds llike its Sunday in a walk in centre for you. Sorry.

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:49

your message of reassurance came about three minutes too late boys....im kicking myself now.

All I have done is punctured said angry toe and have made DD slightly more angry. Just wiped it with a savlon and stuck a dressing over...I fear your "sunday at the walk in" prediction may come true.

I feel a lecture from DH coming on lol

Thanks for your help tho everyone!!!!! If we find out what it is will let you know!

boysrock · 24/03/2012 22:51

Ah well, walk in it is. What's the bribe for dd to keep her mouth shut Wink

WittyTitle · 24/03/2012 22:57

whatever I try I think it will be in vain...shes the ultimate sympathy seeker and quite enjoys watching me squirm lol. I saw a little flash of 666 in her eyes when I said "whatever you do dont tell dad" .... plus a bandage/amputation might be hard to hide Grin

THey dont show you this shit on casualty...this is MN, bringing it to you from the streets

NoWittyName · 25/03/2012 11:43

Have you tried bathing it in a strong salt solution? Just pop her in front of the telly with her foot in a washing up bowl of warm very salty water. Should drain out any remaining pus. ENJOY!! xx

gingeroots · 25/03/2012 12:18

I'd be interested in what you'll cover it with .
Interest in dressing digits ...we all have our hobbies Smile

WittyTitle · 25/03/2012 19:40

Hahahaha ginger roots. I went with a little 'non woven sterile dressing' an a strip of Micropore. Since your interested I had to double wrap the tape as every time she bent her sodding toe it popped off.

Have used the salt water tonight, it seems to be calming so I definitely think popping was the correct choice.

OP posts:
gingeroots · 26/03/2012 12:31

Thanks ....mmm double wrapping .

How about to secure using that little tubular gauze they make for finger dressing and splitting and tying the ends round the ankle ?

You can see why i'm gathering tips - I'm not a natural !

Hope it's improving .
