Sorry if this disgusts you, but im really worrying and cant sleep. Im on my period and last night i found a large fleshy thing when i wiped. It was quite big and looked like raw chicken covered in blood (sorry this is so gross). I have no idea what it is, i also had very bad cramps just before. Im just so embaressed, i dont think i could ask my doctor, but i just cant stop worrying about it. Can anyone tell me if its normal.

I have never had this, and cannot tell you if it is normal. I think you need to see your GP or phone the health helpline.

Did you think to keep it to show your GP?

SkipTheLightFanjango · 20/03/2012 01:46

Hope this is not upsetting but could you have been pregnant? It could be an early MC.

juneybean · 20/03/2012 01:52

Cramps also come with clots? How big are we talking?

TanteRose · 20/03/2012 02:23

If you are bleeding quite a lot, the blood clots before it comes out. It's usually nothing to worry about UNLESS you are getting lots of clotting, making you anaemic. Google "periods" and "blood clots" (can't do links on my phone) there is lots of information.

Of course, if you are worried, you should speak to your doctor

luvsaschnoozer · 20/03/2012 04:35

Im sure i cant be pregnant as i had the implant put in 3weeks ago, My sons 14wks now and i think i had safe sex twice before the implant was put in.

Im sure it wasnt a blood clot, it was flesh (like raw chicken), didnt break up or anything, i did keep it, i put it in a little bag and threw it in the bin but i could get it out, would a doctor need to see it?

I tried to google but couldnt really find anything, i was going to phone my mum and ask her, but she would have told absolutly everyone and im just to embaresed.

Sorry forgot to say, it was quite big about 3cm by 2cm roughly. I feel ok since it happened, no cramps but very worried.

Im afraid my gp would just tell me its nothing or not do anything. She doesnt like me that much and it seems im always there with one of the kids. Id just hate it if i told her and she didnt do anything. Im actualy in the hospital with ds1 right now after seeing the doctor (who said he was fine). Went to gdocs who sent him staight here.

Im terrified, i knew it wasnt normal when i saw it. :( :(

You are in a hospital?

OK, listen - you need to know what it was, right? So, yes, retrieve the clot from the bin and ask to see the OBGYN at the hospital you are in now.

I am sure you will be fine - but you obviously need peace of mind about this

Take care

luvsaschnoozer · 20/03/2012 04:56

Well, its the childrens hospital. I will make the doctors appointment when ds1 gets out. Ive not got much choise, i cant ignore it. Just wish someone new what it was.

what are your periods like normally ? are you taking any type of contraception which could alter them?
passing fleshy bits is not unheard of.. it may be a piece if endometrium which didn't come away properly last time and has built up before now coming away...
don't panic and get yourself a different gp

luvsaschnoozer · 20/03/2012 05:02

Thanks. :)

Did you have a section?

When I had dd1, she was 4 weeks early & a section, my waters didn't break etc. A few weeks later I lost something similar to that, that you describe. The nurse at my surgery it could have been my mucus plug!

differentnameforthis · 20/03/2012 07:47

It never happened again, so I was happy to believe her!

luvsaschnoozer · 20/03/2012 08:48

I didnt have a c section, but maybe it was something to do with giving birth, or it could be due to the implant. I really havnt a clue.

I will get myself to the doctors when ds1 is well, although i dont know when that will be as hes still not getting any better. :(

Thanks everyone for helping me through this, its rubbish because i cant speak to anyone in rl about it.

Just updating.

I went to the doctors today and she said it could be the lining of my womb so shes sending it to pathology for tests. She also got me to do a pregnancy test which came back negative.

Im glad i asked here, because i wouldnt of went to the doctor. A bit worried about what the results will be, but i should know in a week or so.

Thanks everyone. :)

that's good news. at least the dr has done something about it for you.

3littlefrogs · 24/03/2012 11:01

It sounds exactly like a uterine cast - when the lining of the womb is expelled all in one piece, rather than disintegrating and coming out in tiny shreds.

I am sure it will be ok.

The lab will examine it carefully, so try not to worrry.

suzikettles · 24/03/2012 11:07

I had very heavy periods when I was a teenager and used to get this occasionally. It sort of looked like a piece of liver, firm and fleshy . Always accompanied by bad cramping. It was just pieces of womb lining so nothing to worry about.

Going on the pill fixed it for me back then.

I've got a friend who has v heavy periods and described similar large clots - again she was told that it was just a thick piece of womb lining.

ebbandflow · 24/03/2012 11:19

I have just googled uterine cast and some has posted a photo of theirs, I can totally understand OP why you were scared.

chocolateyclur · 24/03/2012 11:37

I've had a uterine cast before (when I started taking the pill again after a long break). It was terrifying at the time because I didn't have a clue what it could be.

Hope you're okay, OP.
