Why am I getting chest pain?

I'm a bit worried about this. Can anyone give me any information? I have been having intermittent left-sided chest pain, quite deep under the ribcage, just under the boob... so I think it's my heart.

When I get the pain, I generally feel ok otherwise, no breathlessness or dizziness or anything like that. Heart is beating at usual rate. It doesn't get worse if I breath in or out, but it does tend to ease up if I get up and move around. I am 40, not horribly unfit, usually exercise at least twice a week. My BMI is approx 24 and I don't smoke. No heart problems in the family.

I have obviously made a doctors appointment, but in the mean time, has anyone else had this or know what could be causing it?

Not much advice I'm afraid, but I had similar pain which was diagnosed as reflux.

Also, just to ease your mind a little, heart pain is usually felt in the middle of the chest and not directly around the heart.

Good luck with the Gp

If it eases when you move it is unlikely to be your heart.
Good luck with the GP

I had something like this, it was muscle tension.

I think I get this sometimes, it almost feels like there's something catching. Have you tried doing a really quick big breath in? Sometimes that works, otherwise mine goes away by itself after a bit if I move around.

GP was really lovely and took a very detailed history. She doesn't seem too worried but she has referred me to chest pain place, and various blood tests too.
