Pre-school booster, BENT needle and wobbling mum...

Please tell me to get a grip!

DD's had their imms today (a battle of conscience for me anyway) and during the injection of MMR into DD1's arm, the nurse hit the bone, struggled then took ages to inject. When she withdrew the needle, it was bent from hitting the bone in DD1's arm, she's very slender.

Then had to go through the process with DD2, which DD1 witnessed and which really, really upset her.

The nurse felt awful regarding the struggle with one of the two imms DD1 was having. Apologised and was obviously upset.

I probably should have held her more firmly but they injected in two arms at the same time and I lost my grip on one arm and though I was still holding it.

Oh FFS, please just tell me that these things happen and to stop gibbering!

She asked to go to creche and wouldn't be deterred, given this morning's experience I think it was probably for the best.

I just know it's one of those things that will continue to haunt my mind if I don't get a grip, IYSWIM?

As she's not upset then you can pretend that you had a nightmare. Roll it up and throw it out of the window. It's over. It's gone. Have lots of cuddles with your dds and treat yourself to your favourite mood-lifter!

My DD also was due to have her pre-school booster this morning. I was sure that she had had it last year, but she has so many hospital/doctors appointments that when I got a letter saying her immunisations were not up to date, I made an appointment. I checked her little red book but could not see anything in there about her pre-school booster being given. I took along her little red book to the doctors, undressed her top half when asked to do so, but then showed the nurse her book. She did in fact have it in May 2005 but it had been filled in on the "notes page" and not the immunisation page. It was also on their computer. The nurse wondered why I had been sent a letter as it was also on her medical records.

Bumblelion, half my consternation over imms and such like is that the people we are meant to trust often make mistakes such as that! Does little to inspire faith and confidence IMO.
