How long should it take for anti-biotics to work?

Started taking them on Friday and have a five day course. I actually feel worse, not better. The doctor did say that the abs may not work. Should I go back yet or stick it out to the end? Am in a lot of pain and it is getting me down...

what's wrong? have they tested the infection - ie taken a sample to see if it is susceptible to the anti-biotic you have been given?

I would have expected some improvement within 3 days .. go back to docs

I have a chest infection that has gone into one of my lungs. The fluid that usually lubricates the lung is not there. Hurts to lift, cough, breathe etc etc. Pants.

have they tested your sputum / whatever it it you are coughing up

you have my sympathy I was knocked out for almost 2 months with a severe chest infection that was initially diagnosed as asthma .. I had 4 courses of antibiotics (and a red-lighted ambulance ride to hospital when I just couldn't breathe) .. I was unable to care for my own children

get back to doctors tomorrow .. and get a test done on it

oh and my health has been crap ever since

do yourself a favour and kick up a stink (pleasantly) and make sure you get treated properly ..

Yep, definetly get back to the doctors, this is the sort of thing spacecadet has been knocked for 6 with recently aswell.
Dont leave without more antibiotics, it wont get better on its own.
Hope you feel better soon.
Ive had similar, turned into pleurisy, only beginning to feel better MONTHs later, still not fully recovered either.
Let us know how it goes.
