New glasses-stupendous headache

chipmunksex · 06/03/2012 20:11

I got glasses with a new prescription yesterday.

They must be a big change because, I am struggling.

How long should I expect it to take to get used to them?

Argh, I have an essay to write and all I want to do is lay down in a darkened room.

It should take about week to get used to them. I always get a couple of migraines when I get new glasses. All the best!

chipmunksex · 06/03/2012 20:50

I've never had it before, but it is years since I had new specs - the optician told me off a bit. Blush

Must persevere I suppose.

That's probably why then...your eyes need to adjust.

shinecrazydiamond · 07/03/2012 10:24

what was your old prescription and what is your new one?

chipmunksex · 07/03/2012 12:57

Not sure what old ones were, new ones something like -.75 and -2.00. I can certainly see better with the new ones and so far today I'm ok, but I fear it will return later in the day.

If it does I think I'll go back to the opticians tomorrow.

Would I be making it worse, do you think, if I switched to my old specs after work?

That doesn't sound strong enough to cause big problems. If you Lee getting head aches I'd get the optician to check them.
I known Dad had some where the centre of the lenses weren't centred properly and they made him feel ill.

Your prescription is weak...for instance, I am minus 8.50 in both eyes.

I would just stick with it for a day or two

throckenholt · 07/03/2012 13:29

It took me about a week to get used to new glasses after years of contact lenses. And almost as long to go back to lenses after a few years of glasses (post pregnancy and young children stage). The workd was horrible and curvy and it drove me mental.

Put your old ones back on while you sort out your essay.

Err no... why would you be 'judged' for having a weak prescription? Confused

maybe i should have been clearer. your eyesight is not that bad therefore new glasses with this strength of lens would be unlikely to cause headaches.

DilysPrice · 07/03/2012 20:05

Give it another day or two but if it doesn't improve after that go back and demand another eye test (possibly go to a different optician for a second opinion). Opticians' prescriptions are not handed down on tablets of stone - they can be wrong, sometimes badly wrong - speaking from experience here.

chipmunksex · 07/03/2012 20:21

I was only messing shiney, sorry. Blush

I will go back to optician tomorrow, just to get it checked and so they can tweak my frames too.

oh sorry

my fault. twat!

I wouldn't go back yet. If you keep getting headaches after a week, then go back. I have never had a new pair of glasses without a couple of migraines before I get used to them. If you can see better with them, I doubt very much they are wrong.
