Blocked salivary gland.

I have a blocked salivary gland at the corner of my jaw. It has been blocked for 5 days but luckily no pain. Saw GP today and she was going to refer me to ENT to do whatever it is they do but is giving me a week to see if it will unblock. However she didn't seem hopeful I have been sucking lemons all weekend and no change.
I really want this to clear as I have a house full of visitors and a family event next week so has anyone got any other tips to get this thing unblocked.

I'm suffering with this myself, it's been around 6 weeks now. Mine is swollen down the side of my face and across my jaw. It has a small swelling all the time and when i eat, chew, drink it swells more and is really painful.

GP thought it was a stone, so told to suck sweets, drink citrus juice etc. to try and get more saliva made and push the stone out. Had ultrasound a few weeks ago, no sign of a stone so they now think the duct is damaged either by injury or radiation I had for cancer last year. I'm getting referred to the dental institute for a saliography, they are basically going to put a plastic tube into the duct (Which is just behing my nack teeth ) , inject with dye and x-ray to see were it goes. Won't be given any pain relief for it as apparantly it's just like being catheterised and won't hurt. (Yeah right ! )

I've been waiting 3 weeks to hear from them and still waiting. Did ask if they'd be able to fix the duct if it is damaged and the GP told me that she didn't know. Why not just take the thing out !

your dentist will know much much much more about mouth problems that your GP.

Give them a call and ask for an urgent appointment.

Catpark-Eek- that sounds horrible. Mine never seems to go down so I'm presuming its a stone well and truly stuck. I think I'm going to get some sweets to suck - I really can't stand anymore lemon juice. I have been lucky that it's not sore -yet. I hope you hear from them soon and get it sorted.

Pigletjohn- that is an idea. Mind you I hate my dentist she has the worst bedside manner ever.
