MRSA question, should I be worried?

My Mum recently had another stroke and so spent one night in hospital before discharge. The owner of the care home told my DB yesterday that she has come out with a MRSA but not to worry. Should I be worried? or am I being paranoid after all the hype in the paper? Sorry to be so ignorant but knew some wise person on here could tell me.

I understand that MRSA is all over most of us much of time, it only becomes a worry in people who have had recent major surgery (large open wounds), when it can get inside the wound and spread thru the body from there. Your mum doesn't sound likely to be at risk. hth.

she probably went IN with it rather than came out with it, but hospitals screen admissions from care homes (as it's so common there its assumed admissions from homes have it until proven otherwise), and care homes don't screen for it, because it's not a problem under normal circumstances when someone isn't acutely ill

so the answer is no, don't worry, you (and I) probably have it too it's only an issue when you're ill or have a deep open area of skin etc

Thank you for the replies, I thought I was overreacting but it scared me.

Everyone of us is covered in so many bacteria. 1 in 3 of us carry MRSA.
I went into hospital with negative swabs, and I was then positive. I got it everywhere, including my wounds (where I just had a spine and foot operation) and it got in my blood too causing septacaemia. I also had c. Diff. at the same time as this. I was critically ill but I pulled through and survived! I was only 22 when this happened (I'm now 25 )
