Recovering from a hysterectomy

My bf who lives alone has been advised to have a hysterectomy. I am concerned about her recuperation as she doesn't want to be a burden on anyone and although people have offered to look after her, she is so used to be highflying career woman that she will go stir crazy staying with her parents etc.
Anybody out there with any experience or tips about recovery?

Can she have a vaginal hysterectomy? MUCH easier recovery.

she has terrible fibroids and will have to have a section of bowel removed and has had some dodgy smear results which may mean problems with cervix so am not sure if vaginal is feasible.

A cervix can be removed vaginally after the uterus has been delivered out of it. But the fibroids may be so big vaginal hysterectomy isn't possible.

Dodgy smear results aren't reason enough to do an abdominal hysterectomy, but big fibroids might be.

Thanks expat. I am pretty sure it is an abdominal hysterectomy she will have to have from the sound of it.
Anyone with pearls of wisdom?
It has all happened very fast ( she has private health cover and I am really concerned that she will mentally be in pieces as it means no kids for definite.
