Hi all, hubby has had pains round by his kidneys for couple weeks now, he's also been running to the loo for a poo a lot more than usual. Went to doc today and he pushed on his upper stomach under ribs and dh said it was painful. Doc has referred for 'tube down throat test' as dh put it so am presuming its standard endoscopy as says may be ulcer but is also doing bloods to check liver etc.

Dh weighed himself tonite and he's lost half stone and his weight is always fairly stable.
I'm unsure if dh has told doc all of his symptoms or not (especially the poo symptoms!) But does this sound like an ulcer?? Doc says he should get endoscopy app through in 3-4 weeks. Dh is 50. Thank you!!

please I don`t want to alarm you but please push for further tests, your dh has some of the symtoms of bowel cancer. I hate saying it because I know from first hand experience how those words can frighten. Has he had any signs of blood in his poo, do you notice he is more "windy" than usual. My dh was diagnosed 4 years ago, he ignored two warning signs, he had no weight loss but sadly it was cancer, I am surprised his gp does not want to check him out for it. Early diagnosis is a must, if it is (and it can of course be a number of other things) it most def is treatable. Please let me know how he gets on, hopefully it will be something more simple xx

Thanks triplets I did tell dh that he must go to doc as the new bowel cancer ad was on tv bettter to be safe etc etc. He has to go back to doc in 4 weeks regardless so I will send him in with a list of symptoms handwritten by me!

chundle I would honestly get him back sooner, it won`t hurt, my dh saw his gp at least 3 months after he started having symtoms, he reassured him I was panicking. Withing 4 weeks he was diagnosed with bowel cancer which had already spread to his liver and now his lungs. Early tests are a life saver, and you have peace of mind. I wish I coul have turned back the clock. xx

Chundle i agree with triplets , your dh needs to take an honest list of symptoms to your gp asap , 4 weeks is a long time if it is anything more untoward.

Hi hope all is well, how did your dh get on?

Chundle · 15/03/2012 08:14

Hi thanks for asking his ulcer medication appears to have lessened his symptoms somewhat which is really good news as its points to an ulcer more. Endoscopy in a weeks time x

Did your dh go back? Please tell him to make a point of mentioning the weight loss. It can be a red flag symptom so should be investigated quickly, though of course anything giving you a sore tum could lead to a bit if weight loss. Pain under the ribs that radiates to back could be pancreatitis. Does dh drink much alcohol?
