Terrible coughing fits - help!

I've been struggling with coughing fits for the past 3 days. yesterday coughed until tears streaming and vomited several times Sad. Also ended up with a rash around my eyes which is due to broken blood vessels. Was at work today and had to leave the room due to coughing. I've tried syrup for dry cough, drinking hot/cold drinks, cloves and Lockets. Can sometimes keep it under control with water and cough sweets, but I have an oral exam in a few days and am worried! I have some problems with allergy and post nasal drip which I think are causing it, so am going to see the GP today for antihistamines and hopefully an ENT referral. Does anyone have any other advice??

I suffer from this too, every time I have a cold! I find pholcodine cough pastilles quite handy when you feel it coming on, also sipping water and humming (I know, sounds random) can be really helpful!

Hot honey and lemon, fairly constantly can at least ease the discomfort and ward off some fits, or make them less intense.

Steam is quite good - if you have access to a steam room at a gym- yippee! If not, a bit of inhaling can help, or a steamy bath.

I have daily anti-histamines and I think they have some effect but do not get rid of the coughing fits, I'm afraid.
