I wouldn't do it without advice from a qualified practitioner. You can absorb things through your colon - drugs, fluids etc - and if I recall correctly, you could absorb salt that way, so you would have to be very careful indeed not to overdose on salt. If you did overdose on salt, this could badly upset your fluid balance and make you very unwell. It might even be dangerous.

I have done the salt water flush (2 level teaspoons of sea salt in 1 litre of warm water.

Most of the time it works but if the concentration isn't right it doesn't work.

When I drink it I imagine I am drinking hot chicken soup. I do it first thing in the morning on a day when I can stay at home. Once it works stay near the toilet. I used to do it before a detox but haven't done it for about 1 year.

If you are young and in good health then I can't imagine too much damage (some people would eat 2 level teaspoons of salt in a meal), but it shouldn't be used by anyone with renal problems or need to limit their salt intake.

What do you hope to achieve by doing this? Your digestive system works the way it is meant to work - food passes through, and there is no need to take any "special measures" to "detox" it. If you are having problems, eg constipation, then you need to look at your overall diet, intake of fluid, plenty of fruit & veg, etc rather than doing something like this as a one-off. And if you don't have any digestive problems, then it shows that everything is working as it should, so you don't need it either.

Or as Saffy on AbFab once said to Edina "why can't you just use the toilet like normal people" Grin

You need to drink the litre of salt water as quickly as you can. Ideally within 30 minutes. The last few glasses will be torture.

It will start to work within the hour.

I don't know if I felt any different just cleared out.

There is a lot of stories going around about poo being in the bowel that is from years ago. My job involves looking at peoples bowels and I have never ever seen this. It is a complete fallacy.
