Brown Mark on my green iris

I noticed this yesterday when I glanced in the mirror in bright sunlight. Then I stupidly looked for a possible diagnosis on Google - which has worried me! Are there innocuous/innocent reasons why I have this spot? I did scratch the same eye 6 months ago and it hurt for a week, wondering if it's connected.
Also, do I contact my GP or optician to discuss?

As in which do I contact, GP OR optician, not do I contact either of them?

No diagnosis on Google is going to help! Step away.

Definitely see an optician though, that is their field of expertise and they can refer you to the hospital if need be.

Thankyou! I'll call optician this morning

I have several brown spots in my blue irises. Apparently, they are just like moles or freckles... which I guess means you want to keep an eye (so to speak!) on them, as it is possible to get eye cancer, but they are basically completely normal and harmless (if that's what it is). Maybe a reminder to wear sunglasses in bright sunlight! Eye cancer is extremely rare, so even if having freckles in your eyes is a sign you may be at more risk, you would still be exceptionally unlucky to get a melanoma in your eye.

If it's new I would get it checked out ( I am an optometrist) but hopefully it's nothing to worry about.
