Anything that isn't a class! Running, swimming, weights, etc. Classes remind me of hateful school PE lessons.

beatofthedrum · 19/02/2012 20:04

Zumba!

elitelife · 19/02/2012 20:25

Yes, alone. The only class I ever do is yoga, which is a world away from being told to run and jump at school!

elitelife · 20/02/2012 20:09

Mmm I getting the feeling u had bad experience at school.thank goodness we all enjoy different things else there wouldn't be any exercise classes.

I like anything that doesn't me to keep in step to music. Pilates, Yoga, circuits

CheerfulYank · 20/02/2012 20:24

The only things I really enjoy are hiking, swimming, and cycling. :)

freshcreamscones · 20/02/2012 21:39

Zumba and cross trainer

elitelife · 20/02/2012 23:15

Hi do u think classes are out of fashion at the mo?

Don't know, but I do know I've walked out of several at my gym lately because the instructor was shouty. And one class was Bodybalance, which I found really relaxing when I did it a few years ago at another gym.
Also hate when the music's still loud and pumping during the cool-down bits, or when the instructor's explaining something a bit more involved and you can't hear them.

forward · 22/02/2012 11:42

Classes don't seem out of fashion to me - I can't get in unless I remember to book as I arrive for the previous week!

There is more emphasis on classes with a specific aim though I think - rather than just fitness, it might be fun (Zumba) training for other sports (pilates?) or the army based boot camp ones seem quite popular

I also agree with shotgun I don't like the music or the instructor to be too loud (poss age related?!)

I prefer to exercise alone - running, weights, cardio equipment, swimming. But talking to my friends the general consensus was we all hated classes that have complicated routines (it is mortifying when you get it wrong).

The best instructor at my gym is really enthusiastic and cheerful, but doesn't allow slackers. His classes are always booked out as they are fun.

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/02/2012 22:43

running, on my own with my ipod. Classes give me the heebeegeebees

mumblechum1 · 23/02/2012 22:46

I like Zumba and pilates best. I do aquarobics as well but the teacher is a bit Hitler Youth.

Beamur · 23/02/2012 22:50

I like classes as I'm not sufficiently well motivated to push myself hard enough at the gym.
I go to Zumba at the moment, but used to go to Bodypump before having DD (would still go but no longer at a convenient time/location) I've also done pilates which was great and a sort of dance/yoga class, have a love/hate relationship with circuit training. Did not like boxercise type classes. Always better when you have an instructor who is fun and enthusiastic.
On my own, I like to swim.

moosemama · 23/02/2012 22:56

Talking to friends who are trying to lose weight and get fit like myself, circuit training/bootcamp style workouts seem very popular at the moment.

I wouldn't go to a class myself, as I don't have the confidence, but I do enjoy doing Jillian Michaels dvds at home and find short burst, high intensity circuit training accessible and doable, rather than longer workouts.

Anything really intensive that is quick to show results on the tape measure and in terms of body shape is going to be the most motivational for me.
