Having a spate of recurring cold sores, sometimes in my mouth. Does anyone know of any thing that may help. I don't really want to take anti virals. The pain of the sores I can cope with but it is the flu like symptoms I get before they come out that are annoying.

I'd pop and see your GP, you could be run down (anaemic) and the cold sores are your bodys way of telling you this.

L-Lysine supplements are recommended by some. Also Skin Shop online does a good liquorice lip balm (for external use though). Sympathies - cold sores are miserable.

Agree you should see the GP in case anything else is causing them. However, with regards to the sores themselves, the best stuff I've ever found is called Abreva. Works way quicker than Zovirax and isn't aciclovar based. I have only been able to get it in the USA so if you have any contacts over there, get them to send you some.
