upper left tummy pain

Anyone got any bright ideas for what this is? I have been suffering with trapped wind off and on for weeks combined with heartburn or indigestion (not sure which) - a general feeling of fullness and acid reflex.

Over the last 3 days this pain has developed in my upper left side and occasionally moves to centre. Its a stabbing and twisting pain and sometimes takes my breath away. It has been getting steadily worse all day. Have been to toilet so not that!

Got a Gp appt on 7th March but I am thinking of getting an appt on Monday morning. In meantime Google is of no help but not sure what I can take to ease the pain? Tried Santa to no effect. Have some paraccetamol or ibruprofin - which would be better.

It could be an ulcer?? Have you tried any antacids? I'd say you need to go and see your GP. Keep off the ibuprofen as I've been told it's not great for stomachs.

Gallstones?

androbbob · 17/02/2012 19:07

I have tried antacids to toilet.o effect. I did wonder about gall stones but not not sure. Can't even sit comfy as it is under my rib now! I have drunk loads today water mainly, which is usual for me. Got shoulder pain too. Early bed and hot water bottle needed!

Gall bladder pain is often worse after eating fatty foods. You need to go and see your GP. If it's very painful then I'd go to A&E, they take this sort of pain really seriously.

androbbob · 17/02/2012 19:20

chocolate won't help then! Will see how I get on tonight and if gets worse Will go to docs tomorrow. Can they give you anything or is it just pain relief until it passes do you think?

They will try some medication (keep off the ibuprofen though) and will refer you to a gastroenterologist. You may need to nag ask them to do this. Write a list of all of your symptoms, no matter how irrelevant they may be. Have you lost weight? Diarrhoea? Constipated? Nausea?

ohbugrit · 17/02/2012 19:40

I get this if I eat too much wheat.

Try getting on all fours then dropping your chest to the ground so your bum is higher. Or just lie on your bed face down for a while, drink warm water, repeat.

Might it be IBS?? I have a similar sounding pain though on the other side. It's made worse by stress, caffeine and exhaustion. I seem to have it in spates, so it will be with me for a month or so then go. I've had it for years on and off.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 17/02/2012 19:43

They have to rule everything else out before they can diagnose someone with IBS. Sad

androbbob · 17/02/2012 20:21

oh well thanks ladies. Off for a hot water drink
and then bed.

I've been told that before LadyS - that's why I haven't bothered to have it investigated. Grin andro, mine's annoying but it's intermittent and never excruciating. If yours is either then I'd say you have to go and get it checked. Hope you feel better in the morning.

deaconred · 18/02/2012 01:34

I had the same symptoms about 3 years ago, found out I had gallstones after a scan and pretty soon after had my gallbladder removed.Pretty scared before the op,but the relief of no more pain was worth it.get it checked out soon, and hope you're better soon

Morning pain still here but lessened off a bit and managed to sleep. Seems to have shifted slightly so will leave it for now and try to get appt at GP on Mon. Will stick to plain no fat foid over weekend and see if that helps, although I dont feel hungry which is not like me!
