I itch all over & it's driving me nuts

Skin feels dry, so I am slapping body lotion on after showering, but I just itch! Spotty chest ( nice), but nothing else very visible. Thought it may be central heating or maybe Lenor have changed ingredients in fabric conditioner (I haven't changed detergent brand), but any other ideas why I would itch everywhere? Kids haven;t got head lice, and cats haven't got fleas. Itches in my hair line, all over my back, groin, you name it, it itches.

Scabies?

minxthemanx · 15/02/2012 22:02

Don't be sorry, I'm not proud! How would I know if it's scabies? I remember everyone getting that 20 years ago at uni!

I am in the Perimenopause and itch sometimes like I am lousy Hmm

minxthemanx · 15/02/2012 22:06

Yes hadn;t thought about it being hormonal. Not convinced about scabies - no real rash or anything visible, just some zit like spots on my chest and chin. V attractive. Just want someone to rub some nice cream into my back to soothe it. Tried taking an antihistamine today, but didn't have much effect.

Well thats good ! Do the whites of your eyes look at all yellow ?

NotMostPeople · 15/02/2012 22:15

Same thing happened to me, I hadn't changed my washing powder and am not an allergy person. It went on for months, antihistamines helped a bit. I went to the doctors was given creams, told not to put anything on my skin not to bath in bubble etc. I tried changing my washing powder and in the end after the fourth washing powder change it went. I'm now on a non bio and itchy free.

minxthemanx · 15/02/2012 22:17

Er (goes to look in mirror.) They do a bit, actually.

If they look yellow, you need to be seen by your GP, or a walk in centre tomorrow. Liver problems can make you intensely itchy all over, and the yellow is a sign of jaundice

minxthemanx · 15/02/2012 22:27

Well they're not bright yellow and it may just be bad light in the bedroom, but I have also noticed my urine is a more vibrant yellow lately - put it down to some anitbiotics I was on. DS has a Dr appointment tomorrow - they;re like gold dust, and it's taken me weeks to get an appointment for him, dare I ask my GP about me too? Or does that break all protocol? She's very nice.

Have you finished the antibiotics?

I had an allergic reaction to antibiotics once and itched all over. I had to cover myself in calamine lotion

CMOTDibbler · 15/02/2012 22:31

I'd ask - they can only say no. But get it checked out

minxthemanx · 15/02/2012 22:32

Yes finished them a couple of weeks ago. Calamine, I am dreaming of cold, soothing calamine.....

Seconding CMOT here. Itching (or pruritis) + jaundice needs to be seen by a doctor as it may indicate liver problems. Have your stools changed colour at all recently?

minxthemanx · 16/02/2012 07:21

No, no change in poo colour. Not sure if my eyes are a bit yellow today, the light in our house is awful! But still itching everywhere so will mention it to GP. Thanks for your help, ladies.

Get some E45 bath oil and have a good soak?

dikkertjedap · 16/02/2012 11:22

Eurax lotion is VERY good against itching (over the counter - Boots etc). Also drink a lot of water and clearly see GP to exclude anything to do with your liver.
