Question to UTI sufferers re urine test strips and protein

I've posted on here a few times about my issues with UTIs and/or UTI symptoms.

Been having frequent urination for about 5 days now (quite often this is the ONLY symptom I get with a UTI. It is also something which flares up when there's no UTI too). Anyway, I keep the urine test strips at home to save me traipsing to the GP each time I get 'the feeling'.

I tested last Thurs and showed a trace of protein. This was the case again yesterday and today. NO nitrites or leukocytes or blood.

Is it possible to have a UTI which only shows up as protein on a test strip? I've been ill with some sort of virus over the weekend - achey limbs, sore throat, headache - so not sure if that would skew test results?

Any thoughts gratefully received

My dd has kidney problems and other health problems and after a virus her protein levels shoot up (she is on medication for protein in her urine) doctor said this was related to a virus. Hope this helps.

Just to update. I'm still having frequent urination and test strips still showing trace protein. Took sample to GP yesterday and they have sent to the lab for culture. Hopefully if there's any bacteria it'll show up and then I can get ABs.
