Heartburn before periods

Prior to falling pg with DD (18mo) I was on the pill due to having killer back pains and period cramps which would leave me in bed, pill fixed them. That was about the only issue I ever had except for a severe headache the day before I came on.

AF returned when DD was almost 16months, and I have found the week before AF and during I have killer heartburn. Makes me feel very sick and it's worse as soon as I eat or drink, even water. My friend peppermint tea isn't even helping. I had a little heartburn during late pg and I had stress induced GERD for which I took omaprozole and ranitidine for about six months several years ago.

Has anyone else had this since pregnancy? I am wondering about returning to hormonal contraception as we are not ready for #2 just yet.

I had terrible heartburn during pregnancy and every now and then I can get it badly so it wakes me up. The only thing I've found that helps is having a drink of milk or some gaviscon.

It tends to happen more when my stomach gets empty and I've found that oatcakes seem to help as well, but there are some foods like toast that makes it worse for some reason.

Hence the nn eh babyheave?

I am going to do a month or so of avoiding sugar and alcohol, I'm going to cut back on the amount I eat but also ensure I don't miss meals as acid is worst when hungry. I'll keep drinking the peppermint tea which dies seem to help and I might even lose a free pounds.

But why does it happen just before AF? Weird!

I get exactly the same; progesterone levels rise before a period and progesterone causes the valve between the stomach and oesophogus to relax causing acid to escape into the latter. It's why it can be a problem in pregnancy (tell me about it

Same here. I used to shamelessly laught at oh who get quite a bit of heartburn until I started to get it when pg with both dds. Now I get it just before my period. I had never had it before pregnancy and although I know that I get it a week before my period I still think to my self I hope I am not pg again

Eugh, here it goes again. Since last month I have cut out all sugar and sweet things, I've reduced the amount I eat and started to eat much more veg and fruit. I think it has helped. A bit.

But I am going to GP this week to discuss returning to the pill, just need a BF friendly one, feel awful and think the pill might help.
