Wisdom Tooth Pain. Advice please.

My back right wisdom tooth has been painful for a few days. It's been coming through for a few years, in fits and bursts. I think it's about a year since I last noticed pain.

The pains coming on in waves, just when I think it's stopped it gets really painful again. I saw the dentist shortly after the last burst and had full X-Rays and they said it appeared to be coming through normally, although there was no guarantee that it wouldn't change.

I honestly don't think it is pain due to being compacted, I think I'm basically just teething Blush

How long would you give it before seeing a dentist? Im hoping it will subside in a couple of days, but what point does it need looking at?

And what could I do to help the pain? I'm taking paracetamol/ibuprofen and have been rinsing my mouth with warm salt water, which helps, but anything else?

All sympathy greatly received

Just go to the dentist. Tooth ache is on the same level as child birth at least with child birth there is an end in sight. Pick up the phone now, right now, no looking at interesting threads on mumsnet. The pain will not go away.

It has kind of gone away Blush Any appointment will be at least Monday, as I really don't feel this warrants an emergency appointment.

Is it really on the same level as child birth?

I had an induced labour which was so fast I went into shock, a violent ventouse and some awful awful piles...I was up and walking in an hour with paracetamol.

I had an infected impacted wisdom tooth, I collapsed at work (like proper flat out on the floor very embarassing) through pain while on full strength ibrufen and paracetamol. I ended up a few weeks later in theatre under general while a surgeon extracted three teeth which were too bad to save. I had had two infections and two sets of very strong antibiotics.

Get it checked!

Confused you're making me wibbly now.

Unless it gets worse, I'll make an appointment Monday. Promise.

The pain I had didn't go away for months, but no tooth pain is good, find a nice dentist you are comfortable with and get it checked out. Stitch in time, and don't worry it won't be as bad as mine,

I had wisdom "teething" pain on and off from age 19-24. I coped with paracetamol.

I agree with the others, though. Get it checked in case it's not simple teething pain. I've had several painful episodes in my life but the absolute worst was an abscessed tooth.

Is it a top wisdom tooth - could it be your sinuses affecting it ?

apparently sinuses can cause tooth pain - even tho you're not congested .
