allergic to fish?

I am wondering if DS could have developed a fish allergy.

On friday night we had fish and chips. Me, DS and DD1 shared a fish. On saturday DS was complaining of feeling sick. He slept from 2ish right through till Sunday morning only waking up when we asked him if he wanted some tea (to which he said no). Anyway we put it down to a bug as no-one else was ill.

However last night DD1 and DS had fish fingers and DS is again ill. This time, however, he has actually thrown up. We have obviously kept him off school today.

He has had fish before with no problems so is it possible he could have developed an alergy? Is there a [cheap] way we could find out? I know you can have tests done, but Im sure they are fairly expensive arent they?

It is possible to develop an allergy even if the food has been eaten before without problems. If this was a reaction to fish it was a delayed reaction - most allergic reactions occur very quickly after eating the food. You GP can arrange a blood test or there may be a specialist clinic at your local hospital that could run some tests. If you suspect a food allergy keep a bottle of Piriton handy until you know exactly what you are dealing with.
