Does anyone else get pains in their armpits or am I just WEIRD?

I know this is slightly strange but I have been getting my knickers in a twist about this. I get funny pains under my arms (mainly on one side only), and down one side of my breast. They are not sharp pains, more like a dull ache. Being melodramatic I am already envisaging a terrible diagnosis. I am far too morbid.
Anyway, I am hoping that these pains are hormonal as I seem to have every other PMT sympton going and my hormones have been really off-kilter since the birth of DS2. (I´ve just ordered some starflower oil to see if I can get them under control and become a normal person again). I wear underwired bras, I don´t know if this is relevant or not.
I´m going to the doctors on Wed but just thought I´d check whether anyone else has had these pains too. Please say yes.

I don't get pains there and am world's worst biologist but your lymph nodes and boobs are linked in some way so maybe make a doc/nurse appt to check you are checking your breasts correctly and you can ask about the armpit thing at the same time. Worth not ignoring IMO.

Pip · 23/01/2006 15:11

Blueteddy, yes, I do sleep on my front quite a bit. I always have done though so I´m not sure how this would make a difference now.

Lio, I am definitely getting it checked out. The only thing that is cheering me up slightly is when I get pains in my other armpit/breast, then I think I can´t possibly have C- on BOTH sides...

I had this and when I went to the doctor she diagnosed that I have pulled a ligament from the breast up into the armpit. I think I did it falling off a horse about a year ago but I cant really remember. I have also noticed that underwired bras make it worse at times so am wearing huge sports bra at present. It still comes and goes but now I know what it is Im not too bothered. Id get a doctor to check if you are worried

Pip - I had like a dull soreness in one armpit when I had a cyst. It was completely harmless - nipped to surgery and had it drained. Good for you getting in the docs quick. If you are having it checked on Weds the worry will be off your mind soon.

This happens to me if I'm under the weather Pip - I'm sure it is my lymph nodes reacting to a virus or something (particularly happens when the kids and/or dh are ill, so I guess my body is fighting the virus). Agree, probably worth getting it checked out but this could be the cause.

Pip · 23/01/2006 15:43

Thanks for all your replies.
Jackstini, I am ashamed to admit I´ve had this for at least 10 months so I don´t deserve your praise for dealing with it quickly.

I seem to have had it for quite a few days on the trot, and my breasts are slightly tender too so let´s hope it is hormonal. I did have a benign lump in my breast about 5 years ago which was removed so I suppose has made me more aware/paranoid. I can´t feel any lumps this time though.

Yes. I started having them a few years ago, probably as my hormones were up and down a lot (fertility treatment, miscarriages). I also had breast pain, and had the whole lot checked out: it was all benign, but worth checking (had lumpy tissue in breasts). My breast surgeon said its very very common to have hormonal pain in the armpits, even radiating down the upper arm.

Pip · 23/01/2006 17:41

Elibean, that's really reassuring.

Happymumoftwo, I think it is related to my period as I'm due on at the end of the week and I've got a host of other symptoms.

It's really annoying actually as I start my cycle with period pain (obviously) then I get more symptoms around ovulation (including period pain) then I get more symptoms a week or so before my next period (including period pain)! How ridiculous is that? I feel like I've constantly got PMT! Poor DH.

I had this also

eventually went to docs and had my huge sagging boobs poked and prodded and she said all was fine

Still don't realy know why I get it

Dottydot · 23/01/2006 22:09

I get this when I'm getting a cold/flu - all my glands suddenly burst into action and my neck and under my armpits get all sore.

Pip · 22/02/2006 21:14

Quick update - all is well with the world. It turned out to be hormonal congestion. I've been taking the starflower oil but haven't noticed a change yet (it's been less than a month though). I am still hormonal and still crazy, but at least I'm not worrying about funny underarm pains anymore.
