Do i stop antibiotics?

Have been given antibiotics by gp this am after cough, pain in chest on breathing, and gp hearing crackles. 2 hours after took first dose pain has stopped. Have i really got a chest infwction or is out of hours gp ott? Dh says i should just have taken painkillers and i probably dont have an infection. Antibiotics make me feel lousy so feeling stupid dor starting them. However stopping evn after one dose a no no i think? Now feeling rubbish

Take the full course. People not taking anti biotics properly is one of the causes of anti biotic resistant infections.

Finish the course. Failing to finish can result in overgrowth of resistant bacteria. You will be back at the GP with an infection that is harder to clear. Most GPs these days do not hand out ABs unless they have reason to suspect an infection. Is your DH a doctor?

No, we have been always told to finish the course forthe reasons said, BUT...last month I had a px for a chest infection and the GP was specific in the 'new' advice - stop taking them as soon as you feel better. The dangers of a development of an infection in your gut ( one of the 'difficiles' I recall) from taking unneeded anti-b's are more serious than possibly leading to future resistance.

Thiswas a bit of a surprise to me as it goes against previous wisdom, but research has shown something differnt obv.

Another keep taking the ABs from me. It does seem that you feel worse for a while before starting to feel better. I was on ABs for a week last month, followed by a week on steroids. Didn't feel that good but you need to stick with it. Cough has finally gone.

Did Dh listen to your chest and not hear crackles?
