dt2 cant keep anything down, but she is so thirsty.

She has come down with a sickness bug today, I am only giving her half an ounce of water at a time but even that is coming straight back up, I am doing this every 10 - 15 minutes. What else can I do she will not drink Dioralyte, though I do keep trying.

How long has she been like this (how many hours?)? How old is she? What else is going on with her? And is she still peeing?

I would try giving tiny tiny amounts of water at a time. I would also get ready for an A+E trip ...

Even if it comes up, some may stay down. Probably good to keep offering just a sip or two every 10 mins...

Started very sudden, about 12.00 noon, she has just turned 2, No temp, but she is hot as she does'nt want a blanket, and she is very very quiet and spaced out, not even crying.

She is wearing the same nappy I put on at 10.00am, slightly wet.

Have you tried a straw so she just takes a very little at once or a weak ice pop? Definitely persist with dioralyte. If she can't take anything and doesn't wee then you may have to call for out of hours gp ro hospital.

ah , not even for novelty factor then ? It may look a lot when she sicks it back but if any stays in it will be better than none.

Will keep trying with the water, she keeps pointing to her bottle for more, so she is alert, though very quiet.

Little and often, sometimes if a wee ones sugars are low it is difficult for them to keepanything down. Their wee mouths are very vascular so you can rub something sugary on their gums, then try a wee sip of water later

Will she take tiny sips from a spoon ? - perhaps she is so thirsty she is taking quite a bit from her bottle in one go which may make her bring it straight back up. Also agree that you should call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for advice. Good luck.

I thought this, so I put a first size teat on, so she cant drink it too quickly.

No nothing like that, how about sugared wated, she will lick her lips if I dab it on, as she is doing with the water.

The reason I was asking is that, my 16 month old just had the bug and did not keep anything down at all. Took her to my GP on Tuesday and he told me to get some LUCOZADE and give her little sips of that EVEN THOUGH IT SAY ON THE BOTTLE NOT TO GIVE TO UNDER TWO YEAR OLDS AS A DEHYDATION THING!!!
Have you done a heal test?
Just press your finger on her heal and if it pinks up quickly after you take your thumb away then she is not dehydrated.
Sorry for all this BLAB. Know the feeling.

could just rub a tiny amount of disolved sugar on her gums, then more water. Even if she has to sook a moist clean pillow case, you must get her to take fluids or you will be having a wee trip to hosp tonight. even rub the calpoldose when she is due on her gums, some of it will be absorbed from here.

Always wondered how you tell if they are dehydrated, Thanks.

The colour is taking about 4 seconds to come back, she has fallen asleep now on the sofa, just after having an ounce of water, so hopefully that means it will stay down this time.

4 seconds aint too bad. Wake her up after a little while and try and give her some more water. Hopefully she will have a good night. My DD woke up Wednesday morning at 3am starving hungry and had a bowl of dry Cheerios and has just been getting better. Sorry to say, but the poos are coming next. Before you know it the 7 days will be over and she will be as good as reins.

Waterfalls, if it really takes 4 seconds, proper seconds this is to long, It should be pick again by the time you've said
good capilliary refil!
If its not and she' still vommiting please coinsider taking her to drs

I am waiting for NHS to call back, she has had 3 sickness bugs in the last year, each time the gp has said she is dhydrated, it seems to happen very easily with her. She is still asleep at the moment, will see if she is any better when she wakes.

My dr advised me to give lemonade with all the fizz shaken out! somehow it's lighter on the stomach than water.It always worked for us.
