I had an ELCS a couple of weeks ago and had 5 days of light bleeding afterwards. Last weekend (so about 12 days post CS) I had terrible afterpains and some more very light brown bleeding but hardly anything.
I spoke to my midwife about it yesterday and she advised that afterpains at this stage were very unusual and that it might be my uterus trying to expel a retained clot/material and that I might pass something in due course. She also thought my uterus was still a bit high.
Well I have tonight had a gush of red blood which immediately soaked through the front of my (thin) pad. When I made it to the loo, I felt a clot (or something of substance) pass and quite a lot more blood, but couldn't really gauge size of clot etc because the toilet bowl was full of blood. I've cleaned myself up and think the bleeding has slowed (but haven't checked my pad since). I don't feel unwell, just unnerved.
Am a bit worried and have scared myself by googling secondary post-partum haemorrage and the things they do to you in the course of treating it.
On the one hand, it may be that this is what is supposed to happen and a good thing to get rid of the clot before it becomes infected.
On the other hand, is it bad that there is so much fresh red blood?
I am thinking of booking myself in with the GP tomorrow, but do I need to act more urgently?
Am posting also in Childbirth to pick up traffic - sorry for the duplication.
