My DHs ankle/foot have swelled up rather badly. He's also getting chest pain. I have read up the symptoms seem to suggest D.V.T.
He is pretty overweight and his job involves driving all day so sat in the same position for hours.
How urgently should he see his GP? He has a day off work on Wednesday so could go then or do you think he should call in sick Monday? It isn't A&E worthy, is it?

Hi, not medically trained but didn't want to read and run. Does his ankle/foot feel hot/look red? I think a phone call to NHS Direct at the very least. Don't leave it till Wednesday.

Never posted before. Husband is a physio. Go to A&E immediately if you suspect a DVT. Do not wait to go and see doctor.

It is A&E worthy IMO.

I recently had a suspected DVT and went to A&E. I was assured that I had done the right thing. A simple blood test can diagnose or rule out. In my case it was inconclusive so I was refererred for an ultrasound scan the following day and given a precautionary injection of anti-coagulant in the interim.

I agree, I'm a whelchair user and was at higher risk of DVT through pregnancy, I was told any symptoms straight to A and E - so if you really think it is then don't wait

Ex nurse and would say ankle probably cellulitis but with chest pain go to a &e absolutely no question

vigglewiggle · 28/01/2012 21:42

A&E pronto! There could be other causes, but DVT needs to be ruled out and accompanying chest pain is worrying. Hope all is well.

OK. thank you.
