Really bad headaches...

I am hoping somebody here has had similar as I am a bit scared...

For the past few months I have had bad headaches. These headaches are constant - and every single day. They are not in one particular area.

I have seen my GP several times and she seemed to think it may be allergy/sinus related and prescribed me steroid nasal spray. After a few weeks with no improvement she prescribed a stronger spray - again did nothing to ease my headaches.

I went to see her on Wednesday and she has referred me to the hospital for an MRI and to see the neurologist, telling me my appointment will be within the next couple of weeks.

I have to admit I am really really scared. As soon as neurologists and MRI scans were mentioned I started thinking 'oh god I have a tumour' Sad

I know I am being dramatic, but with 3 kids at home I can't help but be frightened.

Has anybody else had experience like this ? Anybody have headaches that needed an MRI ?

Thanks x

Did she check your eyes? I ask because I had similar symptoms, an MRI and then a neurologist consult. They diagnosed raised intracranial pressure - which can cause constant headaches, and there is medication available to treat it. It can be seen by looking into your eyes with a torch.

Does your headache get worse when you cough, change position or bend down to pick something up? All of these are symptoms of raised pressure.

The MRI is fine if you take a CD and close your eyes - that way you can zone out and forget you are in the machine!

I suffered a constant headache for around a year. Was back and forward to doc, eye tests, MRI scan etc, the lot!!! Nothing unusual was ever found, put it down to migraines, told me to cut choc, cheese and caffeine from my diet but nothing caused a change. Was then put on beta blockers, again didn't help so after a while I just stopped taking them. Headache did eventually go, just remember thinking one day, 'oh I dont have a sore head!'

Only time I get one now is if I don't drink enough (fairly obvious) and if iv ate to much junk and not been to gym. If I do get one, guarantee a 2 hrs workout and it's gone!! Grin

Don't worry to much about MRI. It's over very quick

Thanks for your replies Smile

She did look into my eyes and said there was no pressure, so at least that is one relief. I am just hoping my appointment gets here fairly quick as just want it over with x
