When should I see the doctor?

Having had a regular 28 day cycle for ages, it's currently gone haywire. Last month was 32 days. This time it's 43 and still waiting. There is absolutely no chance I'm pregnant (celibate for over three years). Could it be the start of the menopause? I'm only 45 but my sister started hers in her early 40s and her GP told her it can run in families. No other symptoms. I have gained a bit of weight but that was overindulging over Christmas and lacking the willpower to do anything about it since!

At what point do I see my GP about it? Do I wait until I've missed a couple of periods? Wait and see if any other symptoms come up? Or just accept that I'm officially heading over the hill and leave it at that.

It's a very individual thing. How worried are you? It's your call. Some wouldn't even notice those changes, some would assume it's the meno and get on with it and others would be straight down the surgery. All I can say is " If in doubt, check it out."

I very rarely go and see my doc so if it were me I'd have to make a special appointment, if you go anyway, perhaps best mention it next time you're there.

I guess it depends on what you hope the doctor will do?
I'm currently ignoring all symptons of irregular and suddenly very heavy periods cos they are combining with my sudden scattiness and occassional ferocious moods - all of which reliably (well, according to my mother..) indicate the Beginning of the End.
As ever, if you are worried, go see the doc - they can probably put your mind at rest very swiftly - maybe a blood test to check hormone levels?
