Does this sound like a thyroid problem?

Have just done what one should never do - googled some symptoms and it appears that I have numerous markers of Hypothyroidism.

My symptoms are:

Achey joints (mainly hands and fingers)
Always tired, even first thing in the morning, never feel refreshed
Depressed, anxious
Feel cold even when everyone else is warm. Can also feel very hot when others are cold.
Throat feels strange, can't bear wearing scarves, polo necks etc, feels like there's something wrong with the front of my throat
Constipation
Dizziness and headaches

Trouble is, a lot of those symptoms could be explained by just being a knackered mum of 4! Tiredness, depression could be PND, constipation most likely down to not having the best of diets.

No weight gain or loss which is a major marker I believe.

Just feel shit all the time. Periods are horrendous but then they always have been. Again, my throat feeling strange - it's been like that on and off for years.

Anyone got Hypothyroidism and symptoms sound similar?

I know people with hypothyroid, and except for the feeling hot bit the rest of it rings a lot of bells. It's a very straightforward blood test to rule it in or out, so I would go to the GP. Heavy periods could be making you anaemic, which wouldn't be helping, and there can be a connection with that and an underactive thyroid.

A couple of classic symptoms there - go and get tested - you know it makes sense, but ask your GP for a full screen, TSH, FT4, FT3 and antibodies, because checking all of those is the only way you can completley rule it out.

Sounds like my symptoms, is your hair falling out? Mine was coming out in handfuls every time I washed it, which is what finally gave me a clue something was possibly not quite right!

Yep. I have all of those horribly familiar symptoms and have hypothyroidism. Go to your GP and ask for a blood test, better to rule it out of it isn't!

Thanks everyone, will get an appointment with my GP and see what he says.

My hair is falling out but has done so for years. Have had 2 children in last 4 years and have been either pregnant or breastfeeding solidly for last almost 5 years so put hairloss down to that. It doesn't come out in handfuls but hairbrush is always full of hair and my bedroom carpet seems to have a permanent layer of hair around my dressing table Blush

Wouldn't I be gaining weight or losing it though if I had a thyroid problem?

Have a look at www.stopthethyroidmadness.com , they have a list of symptoms and which tests to ask for. I found them extremely helpful!

I didn't even have all your symptoms - just tired, flat mood and couldn't shift any weight. Went to doc expecting to be told it was all down to age, pull yourself together etc but instead lovely doc did blood tests for everything under the sun and lo it turned out to be autoimmune hypothyroidism. Feel sooooo much better on my thyroxine pills. Go get tested OP and hope you feel better soon.
