Period Pain - What can I do? Suggestions please!

Right, my period has started earlier than I expected and I'm in pain. I'm at work this morning and can't leave the office until 12.30.

I've taken two (slightly fluffy) paracetamols that I found in the bottom of my handbag and, in an attempt to replace a hot-water bottle, have aimed the fan-heater at my middle and turned it on high.

What else can I do to make me feel better without looking like an idiot at work? Any ideas please?

Can you get your hands on any other painkillers, like Ibruprofen?

Eat some chocolate?

Unfortunately as the one woman in the office I am the only one who carries painkillers. Also it means I get no sympathy!

The chocolate is a good idea - it solves a lot of problems. I think there are chocolate biscuits in the kitchen which I shall raid ... Not quite the same, but they'll have to do.

Get your hands on some ibuprofen at all costs paracetamol has no impact.

If you're near a chemist or supermarket you can get little heatup pads for your stomach - sort of a one time use hotwater bottle, like the pads you might use for a muscle ache.

Or roll up a scarf/jumper and hold tightly against your lap?

Drink some tea, eat some choccy biccies and breath deeply until 12.30!

For next time! Get yourself along to your GP and request Ponstan. When get prescription ask pharmacist for it as pop outs in silver paper (not got a clue what correct term is) not loads in a bottle. Distribute these little packs in every handbag, office drawer etc

Categorically do not do what a friend did and ask GP for Prozac in error. This resulted very long consultation.

For next time get some Tiger Balm and keep it in your bag. It's a miracle cure for headaches, tension headaches and period pains :-)

Thank you all for the suggestions. I survived (just), and my handbag and desk drawer are now fully stocked with painkillers of all types.

I can however report that a fan-heater makes a good substitute for a hot-water bottle.

I considered stocking up on chocolate for emergencies too - but wasn't sure that it would still be there when the emergency arrived!!
