Mirena coil removal

PresidentWensleydale · 19/01/2012 23:36

I had the mirena put in under general aneasthetic following an ERPC in April 2011, I only had it put in for contraception but it really is not working for me. I bleed the same amount, menstruation pain is much worse and have breakthrough bleeding all the time.
I know our GP's don't deal with coil's so how do I get the bloody thing out, can I do a DIY job?

family planning clinic?

TopazMortmain · 20/01/2012 09:24

Please please don't try and remove it yourself! HmmConfused

My GP took mine out in a flash without a proper appointment when I had some irregular bleeding. I was actually in for ear syringing - got more than I bargained for.
So did the GP when I fainted after his quick procedure.

got mine removed at the family planning clinic.

Very easy and pain free. Mine was giving me hell.

Also a great place to sort an alternative.

Oh my god! Don't take it out yourself. Your GP doesn't deal with coils? But surely they can tell you where to go, I just had mine taken out at my local family planning clinic this week - it was pretty uncomfortable. I certainly wouldn't want an amateur doing it!

My gP tried and failed, they took it out at the family planning clinic.

Rightyho, no diy job Grin
Thanks everyone, I will ask next time i'm at the docs.
All the family planning clinics here seem to be for under 25's!

I took my own out, was very easy.

I had to wait three weeks for the nurse at GP's surgery to do it and I didn't want to wait that long as I really wanted it out ( was a copper coil). I didn't want to go to the family planning clinic as I got BV for the first time when they inserted it.
