Can anxiety make you nauseus?

I'm under a lot of stress at the moment. For the last week and a half I've been feeling nauseus. Sometimes I've had a slight heartburn. No other symptoms, but it's very annoying-it's that lo level nausea I had in early pregnancy. I'm not pg though as my period ended a couple days ago.

Yes, definitely. Have you been to your GP?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 13/01/2012 11:27

Oh yeah. I'm having CBT for severe anxiety right now and the physical symptoms to incude nausea.

The nausea I get does feel like that background sickness when pregnant.....hormones have a lot to do with it as they get scrambled when your anxiety rises and your body floods with adrenaline.

See your GP....they can help

No, I was thinking it may be related to the fact that I have two assignments to turn in that I am very, very late with and have't started yet. Loads of other issues as well, but I thought that the nausea has subsided when I was granted a few days extension, only to return with vengeance today as I'm staring at the screen with 0 words written and 8 hours left til the deadline.

Ok, thanks, Eddie-yes, that sort of nausea, exactly.
But a heartburn? Not a bad one, just a bit of burning sensation, not really painful. Had it few times over the last 10 days (normally it's very rare I get it).

Yes, I've had this. Especially when I have a million things to do and it seems impossible that I will get around to completing task No.1

Good luck with the assignments. Start by writing anything - sometimes just getting started can get your brain in gear. You can go back and edit later.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 13/01/2012 19:12

Hell yeah. On meds for that too Sad

I have decided that I will skip this assignment Blush and hey presto, am feeling better Hmm Still a bit dodgy, but way better. Odd.

Anxiety can cause so many physical symptoms you wouldn't believe... Here are mine;

Acid reflux
Heartburn
Loose stools
Nausea
Stomach ache
Insomnia
Dizziness
Weakness
No appetite

Winny, have you tried anything for your anxiety?

winnybella · 16/01/2012 21:43

Bups, I'm anxious because I'm the world's worst procrastinator and that can lead to some very unpleasant things. I'm not sure that I need to go to the doctor for anxiety- for being the laziest person alive, perhaps. Although I used to get horrendous panic attacks that may have been related to overindulging in some illegal substances.

Anyway, nausea et al is gone. I woke up the morning after deadline feeling very chirpy.

I have also stopped drinking wine for the last few days and have walked for miles and have done lots of admin and such like and I'm feeling not anxious at all at the moment.

Good to know that anxiety can produce such a variety of symptoms, thanks for sharing guys Smile

Definately nausea is a symptom. Its where the saying ' feel sick with worry' comes from.

Clownsarescary · 18/01/2012 13:25

I actually throw up in times of anxiety. So yes very normal to experience nausea with anxiety.
